In addition, there are songs like "Sweet," which turns a common national expression into a tight and particularized country tune, and "I Can't Out Run You," a vocal tour de force about the weight of romantic obsession in which Adkins records a haunting country soul song, in 2008, Sinatra-style. These songs show how both sides of Adkins' music work with a great stylistic co-cooperation: "Hillbilly Rich" wouldn't be nearly as good without the rooted center of Adkins' steady, nuanced baritone, and "Sometimes a Man Takes a Drink" could be tradition merely without his ability to infuse heritage styles with modern tensions and vibes. And the album features as well a song like "Till The Last Shot's Fired," which looks at military history and personal sacrifice, and in which Adkins' vocal is augmented by the rare presence of the West Point Cadet Choir." An energetic tune built around a heavy guitar lick -- Adkins introduces the song as "a little funkabilly" -- called "Better Than I Thought It'd Be" and a thoughtful orchestrated ballad, "All I Ask For Anymore," round out the album. | | | |

The BEST!! Feb 20, 2010 The is the best CD I have purchased in a very long time. The songs are amazing - especially the accapella one with the piano and cello! That one with Trace's voice and the cello is amazing!!
It makes you laugh, cry, dance and sing-along. Dec 07, 2009 One of the most consistent country performers out there today, Trace Adkins just keeps delivering great music. There isn't a song on this CD I don't like, even though they range from ballads (I Can't Outrun You), to gospel (Muddy Waters), to humorous (Hillybilly Rich, Sweet), to ole time country (Sometimes a Man Takes a Drink). Worth every penny.
Trace Adkins Aug 09, 2009 This is probably not my favorite Trace Adkins CD, but it's still wonderful. He gives us lots of variety on this one, such as the humorous "I'm gonna marry for money", follwed by the heart breaking, "Arlington". His voice is as strong as ever, & he really delivers. Trace never disappoints me!
X (ten) May 25, 2009 If you like Trace Adkins, you'll like this album. The older he gets, the better he is, LOOKS and VOICE!! I have almost all of his music and you can hear the progression thru the years. He's great!!
